A practical guide to ALDRICH metal platforms and mattress foundations—what fits, what goes underneath, and what to check before you choose.

ALDRICH 10-inch Queen metal platform bed styled with bedding in a bright bedroom

The short answer

Which ALDRICH bed frame should you choose?

ALDRICH sells metal platform bed frames and covered mattress foundations on Amazon. Choose a platform if you need a frame with legs and under-bed space. Choose a covered foundation if your existing bed setup needs that type of mattress support.

01For a lower bed

The 10-inch Queen platform has 8 inches of listed under-bed clearance. It suits shallow storage and a lower starting point for a thick mattress.

02For taller storage

The 18-inch Twin platform lists 16 inches of clearance. Check the finished sleeping height before choosing it for a compact bedroom.

03For an existing bed

The 5-inch King foundation is a covered support unit. Its profile describes foundation thickness, not floor-to-mattress height.

The brand, in context

A simple metal-bed approach.

ALDRICH’s Amazon range centers on straightforward steel support: open platform frames in several heights, alongside fabric-covered metal foundations. The design emphasis is practical—slats, assembly hardware and space beneath the platform—rather than an upholstered statement bed.

For a small bedroom, that makes height the useful starting point. A taller frame can free up storage space; a lower one can work better with a thick mattress. The right choice depends on the complete bed, not the frame height alone.

This guide covers the ALDRICH Amazon brand. Other furniture collections also use the name Aldrich, so match the brand and model when shopping.

Three different jobs

Look at the exact model.

ALDRICH 10-inch Queen platform

A lower starting point

10-inch Queen platform

A black metal platform with nine support legs and steel slats. The listing specifies direct mattress support without a separate box spring.

10″Frame height8″Listed clearance60 × 80″Mattress size

Choose it for a lower bed profile and shallow under-bed storage. Measure bins including their lids, and leave space to pull them past the legs.

Before buying: Check your mattress maker’s required slat spacing. The product title alone does not establish compatibility with every foam or latex mattress.

ALDRICH 18-inch Twin platform

More space underneath

18-inch Twin platform

This Twin platform lists six legs, steel slats and an outside footprint of 74.6 × 37.6 inches. Its open underside offers more vertical room than the 10-inch option.

18″Frame height16″Listed clearance38 × 75″Mattress size

Choose it when storage height matters and a Twin mattress fits the room. Add mattress thickness to the 18-inch platform before judging how easy it will be to sit down.

Before buying: The option shown here is Twin. Recheck size and height after changing variants on Amazon; an 18-inch selection does not guarantee that every mattress size is available.

ALDRICH 5-inch King foundation

Support for an existing bed

5-inch King foundation

A low-profile metal mattress foundation with a removable fabric cover. Although the listing calls it a box spring, its construction uses a metal support structure.

5″Foundation profileKingSelected sizeMetalInternal support

Consider it when an existing bed requires a separate foundation. Confirm the foundation’s outside dimensions and support requirements against the bed it will sit in.

Before buying: This is a different product category from a platform with legs. Its 5-inch profile does not mean 5 inches of storage space, and it is not the complete height of your bed.

Measure once. Choose better.

Frame height is only half the story.

Calculate your finished bed height

For a mattress placed directly on a platform, add mattress thickness to the platform height. These examples use a 12-inch mattress:

10″ platform + 12″ mattress ≈ 22″A lower finished sleeping surface.
18″ platform + 12″ mattress ≈ 30″A taller bed, with more room underneath.

These are planning estimates, before a topper or bedding. For a covered foundation, also include the height of the support it rests on.

Measure the route to your storage

  1. Height: measure the tallest part of the container, including lid and wheels. Allow room for it to slide freely.
  2. Opening: measure between legs, not just the mattress width. Supports divide the available space.
  3. Access: leave enough floor space beside the bed to pull the bin out. A large bin is not useful if it hits a dresser.

The 10-inch Queen lists 8 inches underneath; the 18-inch Twin lists 16 inches. Neither figure describes an uninterrupted storage rectangle.

Before assembly

Four checks that matter after delivery.

Mattress support

Compare the actual slat gaps with the mattress manufacturer’s support requirements. “No box spring needed” describes the platform design; it does not replace your mattress warranty conditions. Confirm any extra support solution with the mattress maker.

Headboard fit

The platform range shows attachment holes, but a headboard must match their position, spacing and hardware. Check the exact variant and headboard brackets before ordering accessories.

Assembly alignment

Lay out the rails and hardware first. Follow the model’s instructions, check rail orientation, and keep the frame square as you assemble it. Use the specified tightening sequence and verify that all feet contact the floor.

Movement and sound

If the mattress shifts, check its fit and any retention features before adding accessories. If a joint makes noise, check for loose hardware and uneven floor contact. Padding does not guarantee silent use in every setup.

Mattress support

Check comments about slat spacing, mattress movement and headboard attachment. Then compare those observations with the selected product’s specifications and your mattress maker’s support rules.

Everyday use

Look beyond the first day of assembly. Pay attention to reports about movement, noise, storage access and whether the finished bed height works in a small room.

Your questions, answered

ALDRICH bed frame FAQ

Do ALDRICH bed frames need a box spring?

The 10-inch Queen and 18-inch Twin metal platforms featured here are listed for use without a box spring. Confirm that their slat support meets your mattress manufacturer’s requirements. The covered King foundation is a separate type of product.

What is the difference between an ALDRICH platform and box spring?

A platform frame includes legs and supports a mattress above the floor. The featured ALDRICH box spring is a covered metal foundation. Its 5-inch measurement is its thickness; the supporting bed setup determines the final height.

How much storage space is under an ALDRICH bed frame?

The featured 10-inch Queen lists 8 inches of clearance, and the 18-inch Twin lists 16 inches. Legs and center supports reduce the usable opening. Measure both your containers and the route needed to slide them out.

Can an ALDRICH bed frame work with a foam mattress?

It depends on the exact frame’s slat spacing and your foam mattress’s support rules. Check those requirements before ordering, including any center-support requirement. A platform’s no-box-spring claim does not establish compatibility with every mattress.

Can you attach a headboard to an ALDRICH metal frame?

The platform range shows headboard attachment holes. Compatibility depends on hole spacing, height, bracket design and bolts for the selected model. Measure your headboard and confirm which hardware is included.

Are ALDRICH bed frames easy to assemble?

The featured listings include assembly parts and tools, and several buyers describe straightforward setup. Assembly time varies by model and experience. Check the parts list and rail orientation before tightening the frame.

Why does an Amazon link show a different ALDRICH size or height?

ALDRICH listings group multiple variants, and the selected option can change when navigating between them. Before checkout, match the size and style labels to your intended frame; do not rely on a search-result title or an old link.

Is ALDRICH a good choice for a small bedroom?

It is worth considering if you want a simple metal platform and can choose a height that suits both your mattress and storage. Prioritize finished bed height, slat compatibility and access around the bed over the tallest available frame.
